STEP 4 Installing the Roof Be sure to level the post and beam every 5 to 6 pans, making sure they level N&S and E&W. You can now proceed with installing the roof pans. In most cases it is easier to work left to right when installing the roof pans. It is extremely important to square your first roof pan. To do this, screw your first pan into the header (allow 1-1/2" excess to fold against the roof pan). Measure in, from the outside edge of the roof pan, on the bottom lip of the header, four feet, and put a mark. Now measure out, from the outside edge of the header, onto the roof pan, three feet. Put your tape measure on the 4 foot mark, and measure out to the 3 foot mark diagonally. When the distance is exactly 5 feet, the pan will be square. Now screw the pan into the beam with three #8 x 1/2" HH screws. You can now proceed with installing the balance of your roof pans making sure to push each pan tight against the other so there is no gap between the two. When attaching pans at the boxed end you may see three indentations. These indentations are for the three #10 x 1" HH screws needed to secure the roof pan to the header. When securing pans to the beam you will need three #8 x 1/2" HH screws, making a total of six screws per roof pan. Make sure when installing the roof pans that you secure the boxed end first, then the beam side. Polystyrene plugs should be installed after each roof pan is put in place. They should be inserted under the outside edge of the flashing before the flashing is screwed down to the riser of the pan. |
