STEP 6. Screening

(19) The first step to screening the room is to measure the opening for the length of screen you will cut. After you have cut the screen to the correct length +4" each piece, cut four pieces of spline approximately 4" long. Now hold the screen up onto the opening, making sure all four sides are equally spaced on the 2 x 2 framework. Start, at the top on each side, and roll-in the 4" piece of spline. Do the same at the bottom, making sure to pull the screen tight. It is easier to start screening from the top, then do both sides, and then do the bottom, making sure you pull the screen tight, but not tight enough to bow the 2 x 2 uprights. After all the panels are screened, trim all excess screen using a box cutter or stanley knife. It is important to remember to install the door before screening.

Note: Screening should be done after all other work is completed to avoid a tear in the screen while moving aluminum material around.

Caulk around the top perimeter of the room and down the outside of each wall where the room meets the home. (20) If the screen room is attached to lap siding, cut a wall template. Slide this template into place and attach to the starter channel and caulk with a fine bead of caulk.
